Working with Existing Themes
You don't always start from scratch. Here's how to continue an existing theme.
A theme already in your dev store
A theme built in the visual editor (or previously pushed) lives in your store's Theme library. Pull it down to keep developing it locally:
tanqory theme pull my-theme # pick a store, downloads its theme
cd my-theme && pnpm install
tanqory theme dev # edit on localhost
tanqory theme push # send changes back
pull records the store and theme in tanqory.json, so later dev/push
target the same theme with no flags.
If a store has several themes, choose one with --theme <id> (find ids via
tanqory theme list).
Code you already have on your machine
If you already have a theme folder (e.g. cloned from a repo), just push it:
cd existing-theme
tanqory theme push # pick a store → creates a theme + uploads
tanqory theme dev
The first push with no linked theme creates a new theme in the store — it
never overwrites an existing one.
Start from the reference theme (Nova)
tanqory theme init always scaffolds from
github.com/tanqory/tanqory-theme-nova,
the canonical Tanqory reference theme. You can also clone that repo directly and
push it with the flow above.
